Educational Opportunities

Check this space often for upcoming conferences, workshops, classes and seminars where Family and Consumer Science professionals can earn Professional Development Units (PDUs) or Clock Hours.

Other AAFCS Professional Development Opportunities: AAFCS Webinars
AAFCS Webinars are designed to utilize online meeting technology to provide professional development activities throughout the year. Webinars are offered on a variety of cutting edge topics and can be viewed as a real time interactive session, or as an archived session. The webinars do cost: Individual registration rates are just $35 for AAFCS Members ($50 for nonmembers). Group rates are also available for use in a classroom or a group setting! Compared to the cost of attending a seminar or workshop live, the gas to get there and to individual personal/work time cost, webinars are a bargain.

Clock Hour Information
Teachers and Educational Groups! WAFCS is now a Clock Hour Provider! If your group would like to apply for clock hours for an educational event, contact Diane Grossenbacher, WAFCS Executive Director, at grossenbacherd@msn.com and she will send you all the details. Processing the application only takes a couple weeks through the WAFCS Clock Hour Approval Committee. Don’t lose out on clock hour opportunities!

Document Your Knowledge and Skills ~ Become certified in Family and Consumer Sciences through the AAFCS Competency Exams

In 1987, AAFCS developed a competency exam and certification program in order to provide a way to separate those who say they are an FCS professional (or Home Economist, what we called ourselves in 1987) and professionals who really are. It was a way to designate those professionals who have the education and experience in the profession from those who were passing themselves off as experts. In recent years, AAFC has increased the type of certification from one to four. Certification can be obtained in one general and three specialized areas:
CFCS: Certified in Family and Consumer Sciences
CFCS-HDFS: Certified in Human Development and Family Studies
CFCS-HNFS: Certified in Hospitality, Nutrition, and Food Science
CPFFE: Certified Personal and Family Finance Educator

The AAFCS website also has much more information. Contact the Credentialing Center for details, test times, and where to get study materials.
